When EA reps declared they were going to be focusing on mobile for the NBA Live series, it was not that surprising. Still, I was filled with quite a little trust that NBA Live Mobile will provide a fresh and intriguing mobile sports gambling experience.

But following a week with the sport, I could confidently state that if the future of gaming (and sports gambling) is on cellular, we've got a lengthy way to go. Gameplay
NBA Live Mobile gets the typical mobile sports-sim experience with buttons connected with tasks on the right and a digital analog stick on the left side of the screen. For whatever reason, this has been the default approach to control gamers but it doesn't mean it is simple or especially fun to playwith.

Without buttons to push, which is a result of design, it becomes a research in focus to make sure your fingers are in the right spot and ready to deliver the command that is right.

Things like passing and shooting always desire a small delay to ensure you're pushing the part of the screen to deliver the control, and oftentimes this results in a pretty jerky sense to the flow of the game play. I am not sure if this could ever be remedied, especially not in the layout.

Another problem with this type of controller is that it is incredibly simplistic. In NBA Live Mobile, you've got two buttons on protection: a protector button and a block button. On offense you've got drive, shoot and pass.

Do not get me wrong, anything more than this probably would bring about an impossible control situation, and the Live Mobile team has done an adequate job at establishing several layers of depth.

For example, holding down the shield button will result in you guarding your competitor, while tapping on on it tries a steal. You hold the drive button down and slide your finger up into the shoot button to dunk or lay up the ball.

This is likely something which can be enlarged to enable a deeper level of control while keeping the interface.

A big drawback of the gameplay is the AI in the game is simplistic and doesn't really go beyond the fundamentals. Players do not move off of the ball and there is no method to predict for something as essential as roll and a pick.

In a nutshell, the base at Live Mobile is solid enough for a portable game, however this in no way replaces your games experience. Modes
NBA Live Mobile is a sport built on the Ultimate Team concept, like the other EA Sports games.

You have live seasons, events, leagues and clinic to partake in. All of this is achieved inside the Ultimate Team frame of points to buy cards to then make your team better.

Obviously that's the extent of your experience using Live Mobile, and at this point, you either love the Ultimate Team notion or you despise it -- and it's doubtful that your mind changes much out of that. Final Thoughts
We have to remember the cost of entrance into NBA Live Mobile is absolutely free, so that you can jump in and give the game a try without much skin in the sport.

The gameplay is typical for a sports gaming experience that is mobile and simple as zero new ground breaks. The Ultimate Team mode is something and there's no point in giving the game a try as it won't alter your thoughts should youn't like it.

In general, if this really is the future of sports gaming, I'm not sure I'm a fan of it. The sport is above average. NBA Live Mobile does everything solid enough, and also the modes themselves seem to function without much of a issue. The AI is kind of dumb, but you'll find there's a sport here to be enjoyed if only for a while.

However, the expertise and prospects for the future leave me hoping for something entirely different soon enough.
